When a child with Down syndrome is born, parents are often told it will be a painful and challenging journey. The world around us mostly talks about limitations, struggles, and what a child may not be able to achieve.
But life with my child with Down Syndrome is more than that, it’s about love, noticing small things, living, unlearning and learning at her pace and celebrating those little accomplishments.
She laughs, learns, falls, tries again, and every small step is filled with courage and joy. She teaches me patience, hope, and love every single day. It took me some time to realise that the hardest part isn’t Down syndrome, but the world around it.
People assume, judge, and see limitations before they even meet my child. They often tell me to worry, fix, and do more to make my child worthy, but the truth is, she doesn’t need to be “made” worthy.
She is already worthy. Exactly as she is..
It’s wonderful that because of my child, I got this chance to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and discover a different perspective. Now, I have even more reason to celebrate this amazing, magical human.
