Desi Obstacle Course

When Veda started walking, we use to plan fun activities for her like no-prep obstacle course or a desi obstacle course(what I call it) keeping in mind what she likes and what frustrates her to improve:

  1. Gait,
  2. Sensory processing,
  3. Balance,
  4. Body Awareness,
  5. Control,
  6. Muscle Strength.
Here in the video, she's walking in a narrow pattern, side walking, stepping up-down and then walking between the cones”.

We used dhuree/mats, bathroom stool, rubber mat corners and cones.

I showed her the activity so that she can focus and perform it. It was a bit frustrating initially for her as she finds difficulty in judging a surface and takes much time before walking and climbing on stairs or any plain surface, which is normal but once she understood the concept, she thoroughly enjoyed it for almost an hour.

Obstacle courses can be challenging for our kids not only physically but visually too because of eye conditions like Nystagmus and Myopia, it’s hard for them to focus for a long time. That's why try not to force it or make it long.

These obstacle courses has helped her in⤵️

  • developing muscle strength
  • improving stability &
  • problem solving skills
